New beginnings

I haven't blogged for quite a while. My plan to blog weekly went by the wayside very quickly but I believe it's never too late to start again. Hence the name of this post. I've refreshed my long term plans and re-evaluated what's important to me...what about you?

January is known for being the month to make or break resolutions, to go vegan, go sober and it's enough to make you go off the rails! So whatever you're planning for 2019, make it about you.

Therapy, counselling, coaching - all of these can help you at whatever stage your new beginning is. Do you know you want a change but can't quite figure out what it is or where to start? Do you have a plan but you don't have the confidence to put it into action? (I hear you;

Up up and away to your new beginning!

been there and done that!). So what's stopping you? Perhaps you don't know; talking to someone could help you mobilise your plan. It doesn't have to be a professional, just someone you trust to be honest and objective about what you have in mind. Or journaling could help you formulate your ideas. Whatever approach suits you best, give something a try and who knows what you could unlock?

In my own work, I talk to a lot of people who have experienced a loss and feel unable to move on from this. A new beginning does not have to mean forgetting about the loss or being "over" it. It just means that you are ready to grow around the loss, to learn from the gift of grieving and to draw on the strength you now know you have as a survivor.

So, how about starting today? Make a date to see a trusted friend for a chat, pick a notebook to journal in, call a helpline or a professional for advice and start your new beginning. Even the smallest step towards it will energise you.
